This information recently came through on the Ambassadors Weekly update. I've been asked this before by customers, so I wanted to pass this info along!
In response to recent requests from some of you, we wanted to share our green policy again. The most current information we have on some key areas of the business is as follows:
In response to recent requests from some of you, we wanted to share our green policy again. The most current information we have on some key areas of the business is as follows:
- Paper: Our printers do not use paper that contains pulp from illegal or unsustainable sources in the manufacture of our books. We are increasingly using paper that has been certified by the FSC, the gold standard in forest management and responsibly sourced paper. A great upcoming example is our newBarefoot Books World Atlas--the FSC paper is also a nice selling point, as the book features important information about our environment. We're working with our printers to find ways to increase the proportion of our books that carry the FSC logo and to continually improve the environmental credentials of our products. Our board books are made from recycled paper.
- Ink: All of the ink used by our printers is vegetable-based.
- Recycling: Our printers have systems in place to feed all paper off-cuts and wastage back into their supply chain. Our packaging is made from recycled material and recycled again after use.
- Freight: Our books are made in the Far East, but we control our carbon footprint by tailoring our print runs to fill shipping containers. This has allowed us to reduce the number of shipments that we send via sea freight to our warehouses.
